How is the Inno-Sport Training
System different from any other sport training
system?
Well, it's tough to give you
a specific answer without having a specific
training program or a specific training system
to compare, but the general answer is simple.
The nervous system controls every cell, tissue
and organ in the human body. So instead of training
this "control center" indirectly(i.e.
Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Bodybuilding),
we train specific, intricate functions of the
nervous system, directly, relating them to sport-
the way an athlete was meant to be trained(I
know, it sounds 'bone-head' to do it any other
way and we, too, can't believe that no one else
has yet caught on!). This enables you to prevent
injury and prepare for sport at the same time,
which is obviously the most effective way to
prepare-to-prevail, which standing on a beach
ball or flipping kettlebell's around will never
allow you to do! Not to mention that following
a generic computer print-off program or any
other run-of-the-mill type of training program
will never allow you to meet your individual
goals. So, the bottom line? Better methods,
better results!
What is Neuro-Dynamics Training?
Without making it more complicated
than it needs to be, let's break it down real
quick. "Neuro" is a term, root word
actually, that is a short-hand version of the
word "nervous system", essentially
speaking. And "dynamic", on the other
hand, it quite simply a word that, in the sports
training world, is commonly used to stand in
place of the word "movement". Therefore,
all this term is really saying is that it relates
intricate detail of the nervous system with
human movement, with the associative thread
being found through muscular tension. That is,
neuro-dynamic studies draw synonymy of results
in regards to the output of the nervous system,
the magnitude of contractile unit tension, and
the resultant degree of force manipulated(absorbed,
stabilized, reacted against or flat-out generated).
In thanks to these unique studies, which can
actually be thought of as a compilation of sophisticated
force-plate research and extensive electromyographic(EMS)
studies, along with other patented projects,
we are able to categorize work more effectively
into training "modalities". These
different modes of work lay at the forefront
of neuro-dynamics training(i.e. neuro-rate work,
neuro-magnitude work, neuro-duration work),
consisting of one of the seven critically important
elements of training that any ultimately successful
program will contain(i.e. modality, bracket,
toleration, capacity, movement, method and arrangement).
What's wrong with the "sport
specific" programs that have been given
a lot of hype at, mostly, the commercial training
level of late?
In theory, a "sport specific"
program would be the best cookie-cutter approach
to take. However, these programs are traditionally
not as specific as the marketing master-mind
would like you to think and, commonly, the term
gets tossed around in an attempt to justify
and often times cover-up the coach's highly
generic and probably prejudiced training strategies(i.e.
Olympic Lifting). But let's assume that your
program is indeed specific to your sport for
the sake of argument- How specific is it to
you? It is impossible to have a training program
that is specific to every athlete involved,
but my training system is composed of an enormity
of training principles and guidelines which
allow you to individually use the basic template(sport
specificity) and fill-in-the-gaps with my SuperSeven
specifics(individual specificity) in order to
administer the perfect training session every
training day of your career! Make no mistake
about it, that is the secret to my recipe! There
is no other way to match the results that my
athletes obtain on a generic protocol, regardless
of how specific to sport it appears. In other
words, sport specific training may put you in
gear but individual specific training will skyrocket
you to your sporting destinations! In a figurative
sense, the results are like comparing a motorized
"go-cart" with a precision-engineered
F1 racer. Need I say more?
DB, what method did you use
to develop your training system? Or, let me
put it this way; how did the system come about?
As a young sportsmen I was
involved in many sports- swimming, track and
field events, soccer, and so forth. But even
though I found success early on in my sporting
career as a swimmer and later as a field athlete(i.e.
thrower), I never was satisfied with the way
I was being trained because I knew I was much
more capable. And it's not so much of an issue
of having poor coaches. My coaches were some
of the best available at that time. It had more
to do with the fact that training wisdom, theory
and practice, was blinded by short term scientific
studies and pre-rooted prejudice in traditional
training strategies. I learned early on that
the scientific community did more to "prove"
what they wanted or what they were funded to
"prove" than actually take a look
at the experiment as a scientific observer-
not to mention that these researchers had about
as much practical experience in elite level
conditioning as the casual sports fan. So not
only were their studies biased but they didn't
have the knowledge to even test their pre-ordained
theories against something worthy of comparison.
And this didn't help the coaches none, they
were too stubborn to change no matter what the
research supposedly proved. So as an athlete,
my individual aspirations got lost in the professional
tug-of-war among the ignorance of the researchers
and the stubbornness of the coaches. And if
you think I was a unique case way back when
you're crazy; this same tugging match continues
on to this day in just about any training facility
across the width-of-the-world! So what did I
do? I abandoned ship. I mean, sure, I spent
13 years as a top amateur athlete and nearly
8 years in school to learn more about the nervous
system, kinesiology, biomechanics and so forth.
But in looking back over my decades of elite
level development as a coach I can assure you
that one of the first training gems I found
was discovered in training, as a coach, years
removed from my academic studies- AutoRegulatory
Training Management Methodics. I knew that no
matter what I did I could do it better if I
could individually assign working volumes to
each and every athlete I worked with on every
training day. Sure enough, I eventually found
a way to do it. Then I simplified the process
in order to teach it to my athletes so that
they could enhance the self-government process
with tremendous elimination of human error.
And when you see an older athlete who hasn't
seen results in months on end with more popular
training strategies dramatically jump nearly
40 lbs in strength development between sessions
set 4 days apart, I knew that we had found a
better way! Then, after I mastered the management
aspects of training, I looked to the more physical
side of things- methods, movements, modalities
and brackets. It was then that I used my theoretical
understanding to stand as a framework as what
would be time efficient experiments- we couldn't
test everything(!)- and then we would use my
management methodics to be the golden standard
of the efficacy of the test. And years later
with many absent sleepless nights behind me,
I can now say with all assertiveness that the
system is about as close to perfect as I will
see it in my lifetime! And now I wish to save
you the time, money, and energy needed to re-create
my path to reliable results of such considerable
margin in sharing these training principles
with you. So, in reverting back to your initial
question, the immense specifics of "how"
I got to where I'm at will surface in due time,
but until then this quick over-view will have
to suffice.
I just finished reading your
book and I'm wondering, how come these amazing
training secrets haven't surfaced until now?
Or, better yet, how have you kept them a secret
for so long?
For nearly the last 30 years
I have been working with athletes in preparation
for a vast multitude of Olympic sports, professional
soccer leagues, and more recently I have broadened
my horizons to accept athletes competing in
sports such as power-lifting, baseball, basketball,
and American football. Due to the fact that
the majority of my athletes are playing for
money or wish to one day play for money, I'd
lose my edge on my competition if I shared all
my training secrets, which would result in my
athletes losing their edge. After all, if I
told everyone what I did from day one then how
on earth would I ever develop a solid reputation
as a coach? You can't get ahead of the pack
if you do what everyone else is doing. Fortunately
I have cut a deal with my current population
of athletes so that I can continue to coach
for these last few years into retirement but
still be able to get the ball rolling as to
what it is that we do. Better yet, in the next
couple of years, after retirement, I will be
able to share our latest training secrets. So
not only do you get to jump start your training
50 years beyond current with what we're already
able to share, but in a few short years you
will be able to take your training to a century
or beyond current, "popular" training
practice!
How can I get a clientele list
of DB's athletes, or possibly even get in contact
with them personally?
Each of my athletes sign a
client-coach confidentiality agreement form
before commencement of training at my compound.
This is to protect my athletes as well as myself.
You see, I realized years back that anyone of
my gold medal winners could use their name to
swoop up all of my business if they decided
to go into coaching after competing. Likewise,
if I shared my training secrets and used my
athletes' names to profit from selling such
information then, in my opinion, that would
be unethical and unfair to them. Therefore,
my athletes and I came together a few decades
back and agreed that a confidentiality form
was in order to protect us all. In other words,
I haven't sold their names off yet so don't
expect me to do so in the years to come- I've
made it this far why stop now?
I think that I've read everything
that DB has ever written, in both German and
English, and after my last stay at his training
compound I was left wondering; What's next?
I just don't see how we can evolve from here!
I want to take DB up on his challenge of Evolution
but I just can't seem to find a starting point-
everything seems to be a finished-product. Can
you offer me direction?
There are some finer, more
tedious training points that still need to be
refined but I don't think they are utterly necessary
or worth the time. So I would urge you, if you
want to make a large contribution, to look for
large gaps in my training systematics and try
to cure those. Personally, I agree with you;
I don't see major flaws either. So what I'm
saying is this; if I knew where the major gaps
were then I would have already fixed them. That's
why I challenge you to find what I've missed
and perfect it for the future generations of
athletes. Good luck! However, let me let you
in on what is of interest to me now so that
maybe you can start to parallel these thoughts
before I release them in their entirety. People
have used psychological training to support
physiological training, but recently we've found
the productiveness in using physiological training
to support a special pattern and technique of
psychological training. In other words, there's
no denying the pscho-physiological relationship,
it's in all sports all the time, but there are
ways to perfect this relationship.
After putting the system into
practice, I have erased any doubt that DB is
the industry leader as a performance enhancement
coach. So I was wondering what sources of information
"the master" goes to or has gone to
in the past to evolve his own thinking, if any.
Most of my learning came from
the simple desire and openness of learning,
itself. Every training session with my athletes
was and is tediously documented as a source
of learning(i.e. practical experiment). So even
though I've learned a great deal as a student
and as an athlete, and especially from my countless
hours coaching in the gym, some of my greatest
work came from contemplating the evidence that
got presented to me from these training sessions.
This came at the expense of humbling myself,
realizing that I don't have the time to fully
understand everything so the more time I focused
on learning what works is time better spent.
I guess it's more of a debate between parameters
versus principles, if you will, but I encourage
all facets of learning. Never close any door
to your learning, leave them all open and have
the courage and patience to see what comes in.
What sports does DB or his
training system specialize in?
Since I train the nervous system,
opposed to muscular, energetical, or hormonal
systems, any sport is a breeze to train with
my principles and a bit of creativity and application
wisdom. Control the control center is my philosophy,
then let performance come to you as it should.
For instance, if you train strength then you
may get stronger, but we all know the stronger
man isn't the better athlete. But, if you train
the functions of the nervous system to raise
sporting function then you will develop strength,
speed and power in the proper proportions- opposed
to, say, sacrificing speed for strength from
a strength-prejudiced coach's program.
Where else, other than this
site, can I find more information on DB, his
products, and his methods?
I have written for numerous
sources over the years and I'm sure that anyone
who wishes to really learn all they can will
have no troubles digging up more information.
Of course, if there's a specific question you
want answered then feel free to ask us- that
should save you the trouble of searching for
more information in other sources. Let us know,
we're here to help you. |
